Eight luminous local women take the stage in
“Hathor Unveiled: An Homage to Seattle’s Belly
Dance Origins.” As an art and practice, belly dance is
a catalyst for women to connect with their core
physical power, stimulating confidence, health, and
positivity in all aspects of life. Like Hathor, an ancient
Egyptian goddess of music, dance, and foreign
lands, who personified feminine love, motherhood,
and joy, these women have dedicated their lives to
sharing the many benefits of the dance, enriching
Puget Sound culture and the wellness of countless
other women. All over the age of 45, they continue to
teach, innovate, and perform.

This show celebrates the wonderful artistry and
beauty of seasoned women in performance while
paying tribute to the many influential lifelong belly
dance artists in our area who laid the groundwork for
today’s prolific belly dance scene. Although only eight
are featured in the coming show, there are many
more to be acknowledged. Inspired by their teachers
and mentors, this show is produced by Malia
Mihailoff and Suzanna Davis. It is hoped that the
debut of this event will lead to future productions
featuring more of these remarkable women of our
community.
