World Dance Showcase is a family
friendly event launched on August 5th,
2007 by Suzanna Samb, a lifelong
dance artist, with the artistic vision of a
community event in which dance
artists of all genres come together in
celebration of the universal magic of
this art form, parallel to what musicians
routinely enjoy at distinguished open
mike events. Just as musicians of all
disciplines – whether R&B, Jazz, Latin,
African, or Middle Eastern – gather
publicly to share in their love of music,
generating increased audience
curiosity, appreciation for all music,
and an expanded following, Suzanna
saw an opportunity for the many
disconnected pocket dance
communities to come together and
similarly increase the profile of the art
form unilaterally.
Reinforcing this mission, the event
strives to promote the natural union of
live music with dance whenever
possible; beyond the orchestra pit of a
ballet, few audiences experience this
more enriched presentation of dance
across other genres. Finally, the event
is committed to promoting local artists
to local audiences, spotlighting the
immense talent that lives among us
and encouraging greater participation
in live performance of all kinds.
With the incredible support of
production volunteers, the event has
become more team driven.
